Professional Development Workshop Proceedings When was it: Friday 30th November & Saturday 1st December 2007 What was it about: Creeks, Bays and Channel Dredging - A focus on Port Phillip Bay What we did: Friday morning we kicked off in sunny Frankston with a short powerpoint presentation about the once extensive Carrum Swamp ( http://localhistory.kingston.vic.gov.au/htm/article/191.htm ). Afterwards we went for a 1.5 hour canoe trip down the Kananook creek, once the main outlet of the Swamp. We had a BBQ lunch at the mouth of the creek where it comes out near the Frankston CBD. Friday Afternoon we had a presentation by Wayne Hill, the Manager of Marine Operations at Parks Victoria about the main issues regarding the management of Port Phillip & Westerport Bays at the Point Nepean National Park Visitor's Centre. This was followed by Kris Rowe, a Ranger from Parks Victoria taking us on a tour of the new addition to the National Park that is restricted to the public as it was previously used by the Dpt of defence to test ammunitions. We also had a look at The guns still in place at Fort Nepean and a nice view of Harold Holt Marine Reserve. In the evening, the group settled in for a social night at the Portsea Pub and eventually retired to the Portsea Camp for a good night's rest. Saturday morning was dedicated to a boat tour of the bay with Sea-All dolphin Swims where we got to swim with seals at chinaman's hat and snorkel around pope's eye.
